History
In the post-war period, Lufthansa carried little cargo except mail on
board passenger flights. Initially, the baggage holds of these planes
were enough to meet the demand for air cargo. In 1962, Lufthansa opened
its first cargo terminal, in Frankfurt. At that time the volume of cargo
sent to New York was less than 18 tons per day.
In the 1970's, the boom in air cargo transportation made Lufthansa Cargo
an important division within the main company. A new aircraft was developed
specifically for cargo use, and in 1972 the first of these aircraft went
into operation.
Now, Lufthansa Cargo has given itself a new challenge: to provide truly
global solutions for international air cargo transportation. We aim to
provide the highest level of service for our clients as they work in a
world of increasing globalization and economic integration.
